Details are few, but it’s been confirmed that the crowned kings of progressive death metal Between the Buried and Me have booked studio time to begin recording a new album in August. It’s a welcome surprise after their singer Tommy Rogers stated on in January on Facebook that the band would be spending 2017 on writing. One can assume the songwriting process went very smoothly!
In an interview for Ultimate-Guitar, bassist Dan Briggs informed us that the group would “probably turn it up in April or May”. Fresh off of a grueling final tour in support of their previous release Coma Ecliptic, Dan was confident that the group would regather themselves and get to work on something new in the coming months.
“We just got home a couple weeks ago from our last album cycle on ‘Coma Ecliptic.’ Before that we had been sharing a lot of ideas and we had to put that on hold to go on tour. So we’ve been sharing some ideas again.”
Check out their official video for “The Coma Machine” and teaser for their new live tour DVD (probably one of the tightest live groups around).
Between this announcement and the upcoming releases from Sikth and Roger Waters, I’d say 2017 is shaping up to be a proggy one!
