North Carolina progressive death metal masters Between the Buried and Me have just announced a 25-show tour (with more dates still being added) to celebrate the 10th anniversary of Colors.
Released in 2007 (for those who don’t care for math), the album was a landmark for the progressive metal genre as a whole. Upon its release, Colors earned unprecedented critical appraise, including many perfect reviews from major music publications.
Colors was our statement of rebellion. We were challenging how others identified us in the context of heavy metal, and ultimately we were challenging how we identified ourselves. It was some kind of musical manifesto, in which we found new purpose and direction simply by throwing caution to the wind and purging every ounce of creative energy we had, regardless of how unhinged it may have seemed at the time.
Ten years has passed and we are lucky enough to be able to play this album from front to back on stage for our amazing fans. See you all soon!
-Between the Buried and Me’s official announcement
The group has released four albums since then that have all been major critical successes, but Colors seems to be their “Dark Side of the Moon”. The album has had a profound effect on their fans and possesses the rare transcendent qualities of the 70s Pink Floyd releases.
That’s not to say that their other releases don’t measure up, but Colors realized their full potential and cemented their status as a band who could do no wrong.
Obviously, your humble author is a fan.
Tour dates are included below, and any new shows that are added will be announced on their Twitter and Facebook pages. Tickets can be purchased directly from their official site.
