New Gibson Model: Modern Double Cut Standard

Remember that mysterious prototype guitar spotted in Las Vegas earlier this year? Well the kindly folks over at Gibson decided to put a stop to the fervent internet fanboy fawning and speculation by releasing a limited run of their brand new model, the Modern Double Cut Standard.

It’s got a base price of $4000 (Gibson shop link), which is both insulting and expected. But, all Gibson-gripes aside, I’m still sticking by my original opinion of the instrument – especially after reading the promotional copy.

The 24 frets and scaled down electronic circuit (less knobs) are of particular note, but I’m most interested in their focus on the neck’s construction:

[the neck] features include a first-of-its-kind swept neck heel that allows easy access to all 24 frets, an extra-long neck tenon to maximize sustain, a sleek new Apex headstock carve for strength and durability and a perfectly-balanced, contoured double-cutaway profile.

I’m not a Gibson player, mainly because their favored scale size doesn’t jive with my musical pursuits – but I am a huge fan of their history and contributions to the electric guitar. And after falling into a decades-long marketing rut, it’s very cool to see them returning to their inventive roots.

Take a look at the guitar’s official spec-sheet from Gibson below and see if it’ll suit your needs! If you start saving now, you might be able to afford it in a few years!
